WHAT ARE THE PSYCHOLOGICAL TYPES IN MENTAL HEALTH?
Adler noted that all neurosis is a form of insufficient
social interest. However, he did note three psychological types, distinguished
on the basis of energy.
The Ruling type is usually rather aggressive and dominant
from childhood. Their energy is the
strength of their striving for personal power and is so great that they tend to
push over anything that gets in their way.
The least energetic may hurt others by hurting themselves eg.
Alcoholics, drug addicts, suicides.
Whilst the most energetic may be bullies and sadists.
The Leaning type are sensitive people who develop a shell
round themselves to protect them, but they rely on other people to help them
through life’s difficulties and problems. They have low energy and become
dependent. When they feel overwhelmed,
they may develop neurotic symptoms such as phobias, obsessions, hysteria,
general anxiety, compulsions, amnesia etc.
