Some people deal with performance anxiety through avoidance . You may hapitually procrastinate and put your work off to the last minute. This allows you to protect yourself from the anxiety for as long as possible. In addition, you may reason that if you don’t really hustle and do your best, you won’t feel like a complete failure if you do a bad job. You can tell yourself , ” I didn’t really try , but if I had tried, I’d be the greatest.”
People with performance anxiety may procrastinate for another reason. They have the misconception that they can’t concentrate or perform effectively when they feel nevous. If you believe you can’t function, you will probably give up and stop functioning . Then you’ll conclude that you were tight: you’ll think you really couldn’t function. But this is just a self-fulfilling prophecy.

Today I completed my resume… It took me 2 to 3 days… One page… I didn’t realize that what I was fighting against was seeing me on paper… I didn’t know what I already knew until I knew what I knew you know… Each block describing and detailing my life since 2007… I found it quite humbling like a Life review that I was the director of… I was very humbled the woman in which I am accomplishments skills abilities you know we do things because well I’m a doer… It was pleasant to see who I’ve become… And now to see what all I can do with all of that it’s really quite astounding I don’t even really know how to talk about it without feeling like I’m somewhat boasting which I am not in no way at all I’m just really glad for all the things that I’ve decided to do in my life 🤗 thank you for this post and the space for my transparency of self today 😏🤝🏼🥲

This is very relatable. I have tendencies towards avoidance and I am working on it. However, my daughter she’s 15 is exhibiting these avoidant behaviors because of high levels of anxiety in her school. good to be aware. thanks for posting.

I thought your piece was stimulating, though the performance anxiety I have observed in myself does not fall into either scenario you mention. When I experience this anxiety, it drains me and I want to run, but don’t. I have trained myself to think that what I think ahead of the performance will not happen. And it usually does not. Once I am through the experience I feel elated and exhausted. While I have developed some strategies to deal with my anticipation, I can’t quite nip the anxiety in the bud. Would you write some more about performance anxiety, please?

You are welcome.
Just advise you that you have try to ask yourself is your thinking right or wrong before doing anything?
Then judge yourself.
Then, the anxiety will gradually be decreased.
Best wishes.
