Another great barrier to communication is the tendency to blame the others and to deny that we are contributing to the problem . Part of the difficulty is that during an argument we can literally see what the other person is doing to us . We see them being hostile , self-centered, defensive, and narrow minded – but we cannot see what we are doing that may be contributing to the problem. That’s because there are usually no mirrors or television cameras around when we’re having a fight with someone, so we literally cannot see ourselves in action.
The blindness to the impact of our own actions on others can be quite profound.
This is really interesting because I find myself doing a few of things you mentioned every once in a while when life decides to happen. And blaming others and being impatient are just a few toxic traits I want to be rid of and I am currently working on that. Sometimes you don’t know what toxic traits you have until someone tells you or you see in others or you read it somewhere. So thank you for this.
